The $1K Idea™ framework
The $1K Idea™ is a four-step framework for turning experience you already have into a single offer priced at $1,000 or more: identify a problem you have solved repeatedly, name the one buyer who has it now, scope a fixed outcome, and test it in ten conversations. The goal is proof of demand, not a business plan.
Step 1 — Inventory the problems you have already solved
List the five things people have repeatedly asked you to handle: the mess you were always given, the decision people brought to you, the crisis you were trusted with. These are assets. A problem you have solved a dozen times is worth more than an interest you have never tested.
Step 2 — Name one buyer, precisely
A buyer is a role plus a situation plus a budget: 'a clinic operations manager in the first year after an acquisition,' not 'healthcare leaders.' Precision is what makes your offer repeatable and referable, and it is the step most people skip because narrowing feels like losing options.
Step 3 — Scope a fixed outcome at a real price
Write the offer on one page: the outcome, the sequence, the duration, the price. Price it at $1,000 or more. The threshold is deliberate — under $1,000 the buyer treats it casually, and you learn nothing about whether the problem is genuinely urgent.
- Outcome stated as a change, not a deliverable.
- A sequence of three to five sessions or milestones.
- A defined end date, usually four to eight weeks.
- One price, paid up front or in two instalments.
Step 4 — Test it in ten conversations
Ten conversations with people who fit the buyer definition. Ask about their situation first, present the offer once, and ask for the decision. Three outcomes are all possible and all useful: they buy, they explain what is missing, or they are simply not the buyer. Adjust the offer after every third conversation.
How you know it worked
One person paid full price without a discount, and you can describe what you sold in a single sentence that a stranger can repeat. That is the entry point to the Income Ladder™, where a validated offer becomes recurring revenue.
Frequently asked questions
- Why $1,000 specifically?
- It is the smallest price that forces a real decision. Below it, buyers agree casually and you learn nothing about urgency; at $1,000 or more, a yes is evidence that the problem is worth solving.
- How long does the $1K Idea™ take to complete?
- Most people move from the problem inventory to a first paid engagement in 30 to 45 days. Steps one through three take about a week; the ten conversations take the rest.
- What if my $1K Idea™ doesn't sell?
- Almost always the buyer definition is too broad or the problem is tolerated rather than urgent. Change one variable — buyer, problem, or scope — and run ten more conversations rather than lowering the price.
